From starring in Indian films to a hit American TV show, framed on the cover page and named as one of the TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people, completing 50 movies and now creating history in Hollywood by keeping that Indian flag high — none other than Priyanka Chopra, also called as “piggy chops”. Former Miss world and model turned actress’s career zoomed into an another orbit. Currently, she is not only an actor but a singer, writer, columnist, philanthropist, and producer. Self-made women, who achieved everything based on merit and not on networking. she never had any godfathers to play a role of nepotism and today she is one of the highest paid actresses. From Bollywood to Hollywood she is all over in entertainment industry and so I say PC is not only an actor but an achiever.

Origin :

Ms. Chopra was born on 18th July 1982 in Jamshedpur, a city in Jharkhand. Chopra family was well educated. During Priyanka’s childhood, both her parents were working as doctors in Indian army. Her father Mr. Ashok Chopra was a surgeon and her mother Mrs. Madhu Chopra is a gynecologist. Chopra started her schooling at la Martiniere girls school in Lucknow. As her parents were serving the army, the family had to shift many times in different parts of India, like Lucknow, Bareilly, Ambala. During vacations, Priyanka visited her Aunt and cousins in the United States and she was selected in IQ test conducted by a school and approached Chopra to join their school. At the age of thirteen PC joined newton north high school in Massachusetts.

Kickstart: Fame At The Age Of 17

During her schooling in the United States, she faced a lot of racism because of her brown skin tone. Chopra was bullied and made fun of her outer appearance. After three years she came back to India and joined a college in Bareilly for higher education. Priyanka was academically inclined and wanted to peruse her career in aeronautical engineering but destiny had something else for her. It all started when Priyanka won a beauty contest “My Queen”. Later, One of the local photographers clicked some good stylish pictures of Priyanka and it came out to be glamorous. Moreover, those pictures were sent to Miss India contest by her mother and Priyanka was not only selected but she won the contest, became Femina Miss India 2000. In the same year, she was also crowned as Miss World. Winning the title of Miss world continental queen of beauty which describes the winner as the most beautiful women in the world. she was the fifth Indian contestant to win Miss World in seven years.

Bollywood Success:

Miss World titles brought her recognition and she then began receiving film offers. Her first on-screen appearance was in a Tamil film “Thamizhan” in 2002. In 2003, she did her Bollywood debut “the hero: the love story of a spy”. She gave her first hit in an Abbas-Mustan movie “Aitraaz”. Being a beginner she performed a very bold and sensual role which was widely loved and also won a Filmfare award for best performance in a negative role. In just a few years, her fate started shining like a star in Bollywood, Priyanka was termed as the versatile actress. In 2009, her name appeared in Guinness book of world record for being the first female who played 12 different kinds of role in a single movie- “what’s your rashee ?”. Priyanka played a role of the boxer in a biographical sports film “Mary Kom”. For that role, she had to undergo a rigid physically training, building muscles to look like a boxer. The film won a national award but Sadly, Priyanka’s father was not there to witness her success. he died due to cancer. Priyanka was very close to her father but that didn’t stop her and she was immediately back to work. Her learning attitude never stopped which believed directors in giving her the toughest roles, “Barfi” was one of them. The glamorous Chopra played a role of an autistic girl and depicting love for her guy with no dialogues.

Turning Point:

Priyanka always believed in experimenting and taking up challenging roles. In 2008, a female oriented movie “fashion” by Madhur Bhandarkar which had Priyanka Chopra in the lead role was a box office hit. Before the release, the movie was critically acclaimed that it will not work because of no hero in the lead role but Chopra breaking the stereotypes won a Filmfare award for the best actress and national award for “fashion” and from there, her journey began, from nowhere to somewhere.

Ticket To Hollywood:

From Mumbai to Manhattan it’s an eventful journey. Chopra always had a great interest in singing. She had sung in few movies but her music career boomed when her single debut “in my city” was launched. She was the first Bollywood actress, signed by CAA (creative artist agency) based in LA. As a recording artist, she released two more singles. Later she was assigned a lead role in ABC (television network) show “Quantico”. Americans loved protagonist “Alex Parrish”. Quantico is a thriller action series where PC plays a role of an FBI agent. Within a year she was appreciated and accepted widely by the Americans. This is not it, the queen of Bollywood is about to make her debut in Hollywood as a villain in “Baywatch” working with the amazing bunch of people. One of them is Dwayne Johnson. After this news, she is all over in American talk shows. As the Baywatch trailer shows the glimpse of Priyanka Chopra, people are looking forward to seeing her in sexist villain avatar.

Achievements :

Needless to say, she has won a lot of Filmfare & IIFA awards for best actress but recently she was honored with the Padma Shri. Priyanka is the first South Asian women to play a lead character in American network series. She was on the cover page on the TIME magazine with her name among most influential people in the world, winning people’s choice award consistently two times is something big and incredible where she was nominated against the extremely talented united states actresses. Priyanka is among Forbes list of world’s highest paid TV actress. She is the only Indian in the USA, to have been selected for the national opus honor choir as Chopra huge into charity world. She was also a part of UNICEF for 10 years in India and now has extended it globally. Priyanka was invited for dinner by the US president Barack Obama, where Michelle Obama approached Priyanka to work with her on the girl education.

Learnings :

“I don’t want to have a label, I want to have a legacy, ” says it all.
• PC came into an acting career by fluke but she focused her mind on it to became a great actor. So whatever one does should be done wholeheartedly and one will definitely succeed.
• This learning is my personal favorite, Chopra was bullied in teenage because of her skin tone. But today the girl with that skin tone is glamorous. What makes you different from others that are exactly what is special and unique about you. BASICALLY, BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF.
• For Priyanka, success is not just bunch of hit movies. You are said to be successful when you are consistent in it. Failures are part of it but you need to be consistent to compensate those because success is a journey.
• Taking up challenges is Priyanka’s forte. Challenge yourself, the harder the better. When someone says you can’t do this and that’s the one thing you should definitely do. Destiny and hard work go hand in hand, God helps them who helps themselves.

Her inspiring words — “I was very much fascinated when I joined showbiz and I found so many sad stories of Superstars downfall. It is going to happen with everyone, so I am not afraid of failures. I just know that I always have a backup plan before I take up anything new. Creativity can be molded to so many things. There are gazillion things you can do as a creative person”.

Being a girl what I like about her is that she is never apologetic about being an extreme proud feminist, as she always says “feminism is about making choices, without being judged, just like men have since so many years.” A lot of people, especially guys gets irritated because feminism has got such a bad name. It’s not about demeaning men, it’s about equality.
